Hello and welcome!

My life has always been rooted in a single, enduring truth: Nature is our greatest teacher, healer, and spiritual companion. In my previous books, I’ve explored the quiet wisdom of creatures great and small, the deep rhythms of the seasons, and the profound web of connection that binds us to all living things. My calling has always been to slow down, pay attention, and share the wonder of the earth with others.

These days, I’m walking a new path. I am entering the last quarter-acre of my life—a season of aging full of surprises, insights, choices and challenges. I’m learning that  Elderhood isn’t a “been there, done that” kind of process. It’s a kind of “right here until I’m dead” sort of thing.

Though the terrain of elderhood is quiet and reflective, it is not meant to be walked alone. I invite you to join me here as I share new stories, reflections, and field notes from my patch of northwest forest. Whether you have been following my books and musings for years or are arriving here for the first time, you are warmly welcome to walk this path beside me as we listen to what the cedars, the sword ferns—and the banana slugs!— have to teach us next.

My Blog is a place of reflections with archives spanning many years, long before I ever thought of myself as a senior. By the way, If you have come here to explore my work with honeybees, you can find all of these writings under the keyword search “skep.”

About Susan and Her Books highlights my “author self,” where you will find my books on animals and nature, healing and wonder.

Feel free to Contact me here, and be assured that I’ll read and respond. I love hearing from readers and kindred spirits.

Again, thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ll stay awhile, and that you’ll come visit again soon!
