Hello and welcome! 

Some of you have been following my writings for decades, and I thank you for the company. Some of you are new here, and I’m so very pleased to welcome you. Maybe you stumbled in here by accident. No matter—I’m delighted you’re here! If you found me by another name (McElroy, Knilans), yup, those have all been me at one time.

Nature is the loom for most all of my words, and if you love Nature, you will feel very much at home here. Since I was young, the natural, living world filled my interior and exterior landscapes and found its way into the weave of my life. I really don’t know—nor care—to look at the world through any other frame. It seems I learn best with my hands in the dirt and leaves in my hair. So I began writing the books I most wanted to read: Pages filled with simple and fantastical moments of real and honest connection, “peopled” with animals, plants, wind, water, and stone.

There are two blog paths to follow here: One hosts my nature reflections (Susan’s Corner), the other my hobby of keeping honeybees in straw skeps, an ancient form of bee-tending dating from the Bronze Age (American Skep). Both remain my source of personal renewal and healing, and I hope they offer grace to you, as well.
